Digital Monitoring: Fitbit Versa

The Fitbit company has recently released a new digital monitoring tracker for users: the Fitbit Versa. It’s the newest member of its fitness trackers, going a step further to be a competitive smart watch. With its plethora of features and affordable price, the Fitbit Versa could be your next smart watch.

The Fitbit Versa has a lot of features shared by most smart watches within the Fitbit family. These include heart-rate tracking, step counting, as well as food and water logging. The Fitbit Versa comes with multiple ways to improve your day, giving insights on your progress and daily goals and reminders to move around if you have not moved around enough. The Fitbit Versa also includes a guided breathing session tailored to your heart rate. These guided breathing sessions can help you calm down and slow down your heart if it’s racing. It also includes some premium features as well. The Fitbit Versa can store up to 300 songs on the watch. It features the ability to read and respond to notifications as well. It also includes female tracking to log periods, track your cycle, and gauge ovulation. It’s also waterproof up to 50 meters. For an additional $30, you can purchase the Fitbit Versa with Fitbit Pay. The Versa with Fitbit Pay comes with an NFC chip so you can use contactless payments as participating vendors. The Fitbit Versa comes in a variety of colored bands. The Versa has over 500 apps and multiple clock faces. Apps like Yelp, New York Times, Pandora, and games like 2048 are available in the Fitbit store. If you love Starbucks, you can use the Versa to pay for your coffee.

The Fitbit Versa works with the Fitbit app on your smartphone. It’s able to link to your phone’s GPS for measuring distance as well. Unfortunately, this means that if you were hoping to go for a run without your phone, then you are out of luck. You’ll have to bring your phone with you. The watch is pretty accurate in recognizing your activities too. As long as you’re doing an activity for ten minutes, the watch will notice your elevated heart rate and will track your fitness. If you launch the “Workout” app within the watch, then it will track even more metrics for you during your workout. It can recognize running, cycling, swimming, yoga, and gym workouts. All of these can be tracked so you can see how you’re doing across all of these sports.

Though the battery doesn’t last as long as other Fitbit trackers, it’s still longer than most smart watches. It boasts a battery life of up to four days. This means you can wear it to sleep at night. It can track your sleep, giving you information on your sleep cycles and whether or not you have had enough sleep for the night. It uses your heart rate to break down your different sleep phases. You can set up silent alarms that will vibrate on your arm. If you share a bed and don’t want to wake up the other person, this is a great way to still be able to set an alarm and wake up on time.

Are you torn between the Fitbit Versa and alternatives like the Apple Watch? The Fitbit Versa is available for purchase for $199 and the Versa has a few features that can make it seem like a more favorable option of the two. For starters, the Fitbit Versa is over $100 cheaper. Plus, unlike the Apple Watch, it’s compatible with both iOS and Android. If you have an Android phone and want a watch with many features of the Apple Watch, the Fitbit Versa is for you.
